Enrolment

Our school can help with enrolment queries throughout the year.

Local enrolment area

Check your address on School Finder to see if it is within our local intake area. Most schools have designated local enrolment areas. Note: local enrolment areas are subject to change.

How to enrol

If you live in our intake area and would like to apply to enrol at our school, start by submitting an online enrolment application. Online enrolment is currently only available for Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.

If you are not able to apply online or you prefer not to, download the paper application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form. Please complete the form in English. A translated application to enrol may help you do this.

Online enrolment can also be used for out-of-area enrolment. Please note that out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department’s enrolment policy.

Enrolment applications are finalised at the school.

Moving to high school

Visit the moving to high school page to find out more about the transition of year 6 students into year 7.

Temporary visas and international students

The Temporary Residents Program has information about eligibility and the forms to complete an application.

Distance education

Distance education is an equity program for students who are geographically isolated or whose individual circumstances prevent them from regularly attending school. Students must meet one of the conditions in the Distance Education Enrolment Procedures to be eligible to access this program as a full-time student.

For more information about educational opportunities in rural areas, visit Rural and distance education.

Enrolment at East Maitland Public School is determined by the permanent address of the child. Children living within the East Maitland School zone are automatically eligible for enrolment. Non-local children seeking enrolment at East Maitland Public School are required to complete an out of zone enrolment application. The success of their application is determined by the school enrolment committee.

Download our Enrolment Policy 2018 (PDF 286KB) for more information.

Moving overseas

Moving overseas and need school reports authenticated for DFAT?

Email document.authentication@det.nsw.edu.au to arrange to bring original documents to 105 Phillip Street, Parramatta 2150.

Kindergarten

Students who turn five prior to the 1st of August in any year may be enrolled at the beginning of that year. An Orientation to school program is held during Term 4 for the next year's anticipated Kindergarten students.

School enrolment is compulsory in New South Wales DET schools for all students when they turn six. Parents are asked to consider leaving the enrolment of their child until the next calender year if their birthday falls in May, June or July of any year.

Enrolment of children who turn 5 in May, June or July of any calender year should take into account their overall levels of development.

Secondary school placement

Students from East Maitland Public School who live in-zone progress from Year Six to Maitland Grossmann High School or Maitland High School.

The choice of local high school is determined, as is the primary, by the child's permanent address.

Students not wishing to enrol at Maitland Grossmann High School or Maitland High School, or who live out of the East Maitland Zone, need to apply to the high school of their choice midway through their final year at East Maitland Public School.

Special needs classes

In 2008 East Maitland Public School established a Support Unit for students with special needs. The three classes are identified as Multi Categorical Classes and cater for students with a range of diagnosed special needs. Enrolment in the classes is determined by a local DET student services placement panel.
